If It Walks Like a Duck…
Defense Against Narcissists and Manipulation
This phrase has come up in coaching sessions so much that I just had to write about it.
I’ve seen people twisting themselves into pretzels trying to make a bullshit excuse make sense a few too many times, and i just can’t take it.
If you find lipstick on your boyfriend’s collar, it’s probably not because he went lipstick shopping for you and accidentally smeared some on his clothes.
If your husband has been visiting brothels, he is most likely not doing “research.”
Manipulators can be really good liars.
Being in a relationship with a narcissist is confusing.
Narcissists never hold themselves accountable, and rarely say they are sorry.
They shift the blame and concoct elaborate stories to explain away behavior that is actually quite simple.
Remember, the truth is simple.
Don’t allow the unprecedented volume of fuckery in our world obscure what you know to be true.
If something feels wrong, it is wrong.
You should not be manipulated to make inconvenient truths tolerable.
Trust is created when actions and words match up.
When they don’t match up, resist the urge to create excuses or believe bullshit.
Behavior does not lie.
